An oilfield is an area that has petroleum rich deposits in the ground that can be extracted through oil rigs. One factor that makes an oil field especially difficult is that they are usually very large and very isolated. Oil field workers usually have to stay on the field away from family and friends. Oil fields are also generally in very hot climates – workers are literally open to the elements.
An oilfield might be a tough environment to work in but the rewards have the potential to be enormous. There is, after all, a reason oil is known as “black gold”. In today’s world, oil is a precious and fairly rare commodity. There is a great debate raging about whether the United States in particular is too dependent on oil, I’m not here to discuss that, but as long as we need oil we will need oilfields.
